ROBOPAC supplied RADNOR HILLS MINERAL WATER (United Kingdom) with the first automatic bottle wrapping system, solving the client’s request to speed up production (pallet wrapping was done manually) and save material, thus reducing the cost of the film.
RADNOR HILLS MINERAL WATER is a family business supplying spring water and flavored water to many large supermarket chains such as Aldi and Morrisons, as well as marketing water under its own brand.
The company currently has 9 production lines and further sales growth will require 2 additional lines in 2019/2020. With a limited workforce, due to the plant’s fairly remote location, the savings in operator time are very valuable.
ROBOPAC UK installed a fully automated ROTOPLAT 3000 HD line in July 2018 to automate the end of line which has a production rate of 28 pallets/hour. This has allowed RADNOR HILLS MINERAL WATER to reduce the time it takes forklift operators to remove pallets from the line and manually wrap them by up to 8 hours a day.
This saving of 8 hours allows operators to be more productive during their shift to perform other tasks. Another important advantage is the savings in stretch film: a recent analysis of the line showed a saving of around 20% in the cost of the film, which can be reduced to an overall saving of 38%.
Previously, the company’s customers had reported the problem of pallets arriving at their destination with several bottles fallen. However, since the installation of the new ROTOPLAT 3000 HD line, which uses a system to reduce the film strip to a “rope”, customer feedback has been very positive.
The supplied ROTOPLAT 3000 HD automatic stretch film turntable winder has a 90 degree outlet, film strip tensioning device and film tail sealing to ensure maximum pallet stabilization.
RADNOR HILLS MINERAL WATER has been using Robopac semi-automatic wrappers for around six years, but this is the first installation of a fully automatic machine – a truly successful partnership that continues and develops to the full satisfaction of both Robopac and the customer.
